Dr. Kelly Hamby
Associate Professor/Extension Specialist (C.V.)
Email: kahamby[at]umd.edu Phone: (301)-314-1068 Office: 3124 Plant Sciences Building Lab: 3182 Plant Sciences Building Major: Entomology Ph.D. and M.S., Environmental Toxicology B.S. Research Interests: I work to improve agricultural sustainability and productivity while protecting human health and the environment, using the integrated pest management paradigm. In particular, I am focused on understanding insect interactions with free-living microorganisms, evaluating and optimizing pest management programs, and developing alternative management tactics in small fruit and grain crops. |
Graduate Students
Emma HotchkissGraduate Student
Email: emhotch[at]umd.edu Major: Biology and Earth & Environmental Sciences B.A. Research Interests: I am interested in sustainable agriculture, integrated pest management, plant-insect interactions, agroecology, and insect ecology. I am particularly interested in how ecological interactions within agricultural systems can inform more sustainable, resilient, and productive cropping systems. |
Research Technicians
Shea IllResearch Technician
Email: sill[at]umd.edu Major: Plant Biology B.S. Research Interests: I am interested in plant-insect interactions and integrated pest management, both in agricultural and ornamental systems. |
Arthur YoungResearch Technician
Email: ayoungsm[at]umd.edu Major: Biology B.S., Biodiversity M.S. Research Interests: I am interested in chestnut-insect interactions, conservation biology and practical applications of entomology. Also interested in learning more about insects in agricultural systems and sustainable approaches to pest management. |
Undergraduate Student Researchers
Natalie HitchcockStudent Researcher
Email: nhitchco[at]terpmail.umd.edu Major: Biology and Plant Biology Research Interests: I am interested in researching the intersection of agriculture and biology by performing field work and laboratory work. |
Matthew WheatleyStudent Researcher
Email: mwheat[at]terpmail.umd.edu Major: Ecology and Evolution Research Interests: My interests are soil science and runoff prevention. Specifically ways to prevent excess nutrients from entering the glorious waterways of Maryland and harming its natural balance. |
Veronica EurichStudent Researcher
Email: veurich[at]terpmail.umd.edu Major: Biology, concentrating in Ecology and Evolution Research Interests: I am interested in the interaction between organisms and different environmental factors. |
Erilyn MesserleStudent Researcher
Email: emess369[at]terpmail.umd.edu Major: Plant Biology Research Interests: I am interested in the relationship between insects and plants! I love being outside and seeing new things so the Hamby lab was a perfect fit! |
